Summer

This is another of my personal posts so I'll put it under a cut in case you're not interested.  This journal has become more of a mix of personal stuff and sims stuff.  I had a personal journal set up, but deleted it.  It's waaaay too time consuming to keep up all of them.

I'll preface everything by saying freaking LiveJournal is really pissing me off.  It's all well and good that they'll extend my paid subscription, but I'd really, really rather be able to read my f-list once in a while.

I've had a busy summer.  Busier than I expected though I'm not sure why.  I always expect to have extra free time in the summer with kids off school and the boss on his month long vacation, but it never really works out that way.  Maybe the extra long days allow for more activities and projects outside the house.

I have spent my summer reading.  Books.  Honest to goodness words printed on actual paper and bound together.  Hubby and I have discussions about whether to invest in a Kindle (or similar reader) and constantly turn it down.  There's just something about holding a book in your hand and turning the pages that I can't give up.  So, the latest obsession is the True Blood series.  There's 12 books, I think?  I didn't really enjoy the first in the series, but my S-I-L had the series, so I grabbed it and gave it another chance.  They're pretty light reading and quite entertaining and I'm enjoying them in a very "can't put them down" way.

I've also taken a cake decorating class.  Just a basic cake decorating class but I have pictures of my handiwork (some of you have seen these on AIM - sorry for the repeat).  The first week was just practice on cookies, which was somewhat boring so I don't have a picture to share.  You know, peace signs and hearts made from star shaped blobs of white frosting.  Not very interesting at all.

Week 2 was our first cake, using a very basic transferred pattern and basic fill technique:

Week 3 was cupcakes, on which we practiced various flower techniques:

Week 4 was our final cake using a pattern of our own design.  My design was Raspberry Lemonade.  The cake is a lemon cake and has raspberry filling:

Then at home, I practiced, using all the leftover icing I had from my other projects:

(This one was an experimental cake recipe from scratch - I don't like the box mixes - with apricot filling)

The pictures were all taken with my cell phone, so they're a bit blurry.

The other major thing occupying my summer has been dealing with my son and his various issues.  I was going to write about it, sort of as a form of therapy, but I'm not really in a mood to do so right now.  Maybe another day.  I'm sure it will turn into a rant and rave if not a pure descent into depressing realms that really don't mesh well with caek.
Anyhoo, this is what has been keeping me from getting any sort of an update out regarding my sims.  Though I have been able to get a few entries up for the Snap of Life contest at Boolprop.  I'm using Ebony Geebiv and she's been a lot of fun so far.  I may link her snapshots on the Imprismed Dreamwidth journal, once I find some extra time and motivation.
