tatdatcm: (Cremo)
Here I sit, on the morning of March 1, with no posted update.  Nope, I didn't win CreMo.  I'm a bit upset about it, but not overly depressed.  I wanted to finish up my turn at the BRRL, but knew that I would basically have three weeks in the month to do so.  Nevermind that BRRL updates should have been posted every 2 weeks or so and I've had this generation for close to six months now.  I actually debated long and hard about whether to try it at all, and finally decided to participate at the very end.  I'm glad that I only set BRRL as my goal instead of the delusional pace I was thinking of.  Those are projects best saved for later. :-)

The good news is that the final chapter should be done this week.  I have 127 slides written, 90 of them with pictures, so all I have left is three more major scenes before I can send it to proof-reading.  I had a horrible time with this chapter and writer's block.  There is a lot of time covered in the chapter and it was difficult to try to come up with ways to not make it all about birthdays.  I also didn't want to draw it out into two chapters.  Characterization is also one of the parts of storytelling that I find difficult and I kind of did myself in by having so many characters to work with.  I have a clear picture of them all in my mind, but translating that to the story is always hard for me.  I had marathon sessions of playing and writing on Saturday, Sunday and last night, but for some reason, it seems like I got an extra dose of sleepy sand from Mr. Sandman and just could not stay awake.

Anyhoo, CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO DID WIN!  GREAT JOB!!

This was a great idea and actually really fun and I hope that it continues next year.

Now, if we could institute a cc cull every six months...

I had been wracking my brain to try to come up with something I could "give" to all the great friends I've made in the community and finally came up with something.

For you... )

A while back I mentioned that I had built a community lot.  Well, actually two lots.  Anyhoo, I finally got around to taking pictures of it and am posting them now.

My skillz...they are improving )
Now, I'm off to a community lot to get some dinner. :-)

I think I have a curse about being able to complete anything I start on a computer of any kind.  Either that or there is a curse similar to the Sports Illustrated one - you know, make the cover and your team starts to lose - following me around.  I'm not saying I've ever made the cover, but every time I decide to post anything sim-related that I am working on, I lose it.  Of course, most of the problem probably lies...how do they put it..."between the keyboard and the chair"?

Under the cut due to length. )

I have another update for Oak Grove.  This is my Prosperity Challenge neighborhood.

Comments are welcome here or at the Boolprop thread.

Thanks!

Random thoughts from my day.  Most of these relate to life in general.  Just warning you.  I'm using cuts in the interest of length, and in case some of my random thoughts don't interest anyone.

NaNoWriMo started yesterday, and while I find the whole idea very intriguing, I am way too chicken to actually try it.  I think I might try to post to LJ each day instead, just to see if I really have enough to say to be able to write anything worth writing.  I might not make all the entries public though.  I know I already missed the first day, but we'll see what happens.  Time is a constraint in my life that I have no control over however.  Plus, I have relatives coming to visit at the end of the week, which I'm really excited about, but you know how life gets when relatives come to visit.  Then there's Thanksgiving at the end of the month.  Since my little house is the largest in the extended family at the moment, guess who gets to host Thanksgiving and Christmas every year.  Ding!  Don't get me wrong, I like to do it, but it's a lot of freakin' work.  Not to mention I have the type of husband who likes to start a major remodeling project two weeks before the holiday and then go hunting each weekend instead of working on said projects and various honey-do's.

Well, on to the random thoughts that have filled my day so far:

Sewing Machines )

Nudist Colonies )
Twilight )

Neighbors )
My Sims )

Well, this is long enough I think, so I'm signing off and going to play for awhile.  Before more RL intrudes. :)

How can I get the preview to show me if I have the cut right?  Newb!

I freakin' hope so!

I kept getting the BSOD on my main computer where I play the Doublet Legacy and finally made the painful decision to un-install and re-install all my games.  After watching my generation two heiress die four times I figured it was time.  I had four generations living in the same house, which was a first for me, and pretty awesome.  I extracted the main sims, except I forgot one adult and three toddlers.  Oops.  I think I can write it into the story though.  The other thing I didn't think about was saving the pictures I had taken since the last chapter.  Again, I think I can write this into the story.

I didn't want to save my prior games on the re-install because I wasn't sure what was causing the problem.  I pulled the downloads folder, which means that I've lost some CC and a few meshes.  I've put back some CC, stuff that I think I can trust, and downloaded a bit more, updating my hacks and putting in ACR for the first time.  I also updated my Nvidia driver, and made sure all the patches were installed before I ran the game.  I had to actually go buy another copy of Seasons because my original one wouldn't reload.  (I also picked up the Kitchen & Bath and Ikea stuff packs - Yay!)  I'm not sure if it was because of scratches on the disc, or because that is where the corrupted file was.

Then came the rebuild.  Since I only extracted the main family, the side stories and characters are gone.  They weren't that involved in the story anyway though.  It took forever because some of the family were saved in different life stages than I remember them at, and I couldn't find them right away.  Also, some of the extracted files were corrupted and didn't work at all.  I rebuilt the legacy home, modeling it after one I built for them just before the re-install.  Finally, I used SimPE to adjust their personalities, relationships, and skill points to put them back to where they should be.  I just can't figure out how to get the toddler skills back for my toddler without having to re-teach them.

Here's a picture of him, if anyone's interested.  At least I hope there is a picture of him here:

The good news is that I think it worked.  I was able to play the family for almost four hours this afternoon, after the rebuild, and not a speck of BSOD anywhere.  I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that the problem was solved, but I'm pretty hopeful.

Phew!

Day off :)

I took the day off with the express intent to see if I could fix the BSOD that I keep getting on my main computer whenever I play.  Well, that and I really need some me time, away from kids, hubby, boss, etc.  So, anyway, I've removed my downloads folder and was able to play for almost two hours last night without any blue, so I'm thinking there is something in there that is the cause.  Now I have to work on the boolean re-install of downloads.  I'm just glad it isn't my Nvidia driver, or I'm knocking on wood that it isn't my Nvidia driver.  I've installed Freetime on this computer from a back-up copy - the original is installed on the laptop - and am about ready to see if it will work too *fingers crossed*.  I'm just hoping that I won't have to rebuild a neighborhood.  I've been playing through the main family, but pictures are extremely limited due to the removal of custom content.  It's not pretty.

Of course, since I've taken the day off, a million things have come up that will limit my playing time.  Doctor's appointments, kids home from school early, tons of stupid little errands to do.  Ugh, it never ends.
